These are experiences shared by people who came to Ledgerly with pension correspondence they hadn't yet organised.

From the People Who've Been In

British, Chiang Mai
I'd been here eight years and had a shoebox of UK pension letters I'd never opened. Came in for a sorting visit, and Rachel and Thomas worked through it with me methodically — two hours later I had a labelled folder and could actually see what I had. The checklist was particularly helpful. I wouldn't say the pile was stressful before, but it certainly feels better handled now.

Went to the group session in May. The session explained how pension forms are generally laid out, which I hadn't really understood despite having received them for years. The explanation was in plain language with no assumption that you already knew things. My one note would be that the group was slightly larger than I'd expected — around eight people — but it still felt manageable. The reference sheet has been useful since.

I'm on the annual membership and it's become one of those things I just don't worry about anymore. Twice a year I bring in whatever has accumulated since the last visit, and it all gets sorted in the same calm way. The office is easy to get to from the old city and the team are always easy to work with. No fuss, which is exactly what I needed.

I was slightly hesitant before the sorting visit because I wasn't sure what to expect. Would they look at confidential details? Would they ask awkward questions? Neither happened. The documents were handled professionally, I was present the whole time, and nothing was copied or photographed. I left with a folder I understood for the first time in years.

The group session covered more than I expected for the price. I'd say about a third of it I already knew from my own research, but the section on how forms are typically structured — especially how benefit statements tend to be laid out — was genuinely new to me and useful. The person running it kept it relaxed and answered questions without making anyone feel slow.

I'd heard about Ledgerly through the expat group and booked a sorting visit mainly out of curiosity. I wasn't in a state of chaos exactly, but my pension correspondence was spread across three folders with no consistent order. The labelling system Thomas uses is clear and practical — I've added three letters to it since and knew exactly where each one belonged.

How It Went in Practice
A closer look at what three visitors brought in and what they left with.
Sorting visit — Five years of accumulated correspondence
April 2025The Situation
A UK resident living in Chiang Mai had five years of pension-related post that had been kept but never filed. Three different sources of pension correspondence were mixed together across two folders and a box.
The Visit
Documents were sorted into three labelled sections, each corresponding to one source of correspondence. Duplicate statements were identified. A written checklist noted the date range of documents in each section and the total number of items.
What Changed
One organised folder with three clear sections replaced the original three-container system. The visitor mentioned at the end that they could now see which source hadn't sent a statement in over a year — something worth following up with that organisation directly.
"I didn't expect to find anything surprising in those letters — but having them sorted meant I could actually look at them properly for the first time."
Group session — Couple attending together
May 2025The Situation
A couple — one with a German state pension, one with a Dutch occupational pension — attended the group session together. Neither had previously read through the sections of their pension statements in any structured way.
The Session
The walkthrough explained general form sections, how benefit amounts are typically expressed, and what most annual statements tend to include. Both pensions were from outside Thailand, so the session's general framing was directly applicable to their situation.
Outcome
Both left with a clearer sense of what their annual statements were showing them. One subsequently booked a sorting visit to have their physical documents organised as a follow-up step. The other attended the next group session to go over a few remaining questions.
"We'd always meant to sit down and go through things properly. The session gave us a reason to do it and a clear frame for understanding what we were looking at."
